Overview

The Chief’s Quarters is a memorial dive site dedicated to Richard “The Chief” Canaan, a 22-year US Navy veteran who was deeply connected to Roatan’s diving community. The site serves as an active coral restoration project, with over 340 fragments of elkhorn and staghorn coral planted here as part of reef recovery efforts. Hawksbill turtles frequent the area, drawn to the growing coral structures, and the site has become popular for night dives where bioluminescence can be observed in the water column. At 15 meters maximum depth, it offers a meaningful dive that combines conservation with memorable underwater encounters.
