Pink Beach

Named for the distinctive rose-tinted sand created by crushed red coral and shells — a popular beach and shore dive on the southern coast with a healthy reef slope and easy entry.

Overview

Pink Beach (BNMP #53) is one of southern Bonaire’s most photographed above-water locations, where the sand takes on a distinctive pink hue from the accumulated fragments of red coral and shells mixed with white sand. Below the surface, the site delivers a typical southern Bonaire reef dive with a gradual slope from shore into a healthy coral garden. The site is accessible to beginners and snorkellers and sees significant surface-level traffic due to the beach’s visual appeal, though the reef itself is generally uncrowded. Located between Tori’s Reef to the north and English Garden to the south, it is frequently combined with adjacent sites on a single day.

Marine Life

The reef supports the standard southern Bonaire assemblage: schools of grunts, parrotfish, snapper, and angelfish. Turtles are seen regularly. Moray eels inhabit reef crevices. The gentle slope supports coral formations that shelter the usual array of Caribbean reef fish. Eagle ray sightings are occasionally reported over the sandy bottom between reef sections.

Dive Profile

Enter from the pink sand beach and swim out to the reef. The slope begins gently and deepens progressively. Most of the coral life is in the 8–22 metre range. The reef continues to 30 metres.

Entry and Exit

Beach entry from the distinctive pink sand. The sandy entry is comfortable and easy. Exit at the same point. Be mindful of snorkellers in the shallows, especially on busier days when the beach attracts surface visitors.

Tips

• The beach is beautiful above and below water — the pink sand photos from the entry point are a Bonaire cliché worth getting
• Morning dives avoid the afternoon surface crowd
• Combine with Tori’s Reef to the north or English Garden to the south on the same day

Safety

Easy conditions overall. Light-to-moderate current can build in the afternoon. Maintain buoyancy awareness in the shallow beach entry zone due to snorkeller traffic.

The pink sand beach provides unique entry/exit photography above water. Below the surface, the reef slope is standard but well-lit in the morning.

Tori’s Reef lies to the north along the same coast. English Garden is to the south. Alice in Wonderland is a short drive north.
