Keyodhoo Shipwreck

The Keyodhoo Shipwreck is a vessel of unknown origin — speculated to be Indonesian — that came to rest in the shallow lagoon of Keyodhoo in Vaavu Atoll after a storm in 2015. As of early 2025, the wreck has moved significantly: strong currents and rains flipped it and it subsequently drifted off the reef, and as of 2025 it is reported to be drifting northwest through the atoll.

Overview

The Keyodhoo Shipwreck attracted attention as an easily accessible, photogenic wreck in the less-visited Vaavu Atoll. The vessel’s identity has never been confirmed — the vessel was speculated to be Indonesian based on its general construction, but no documentation has been produced. It came to rest in Keyodhoo’s shallow lagoon after a 2015 storm, sitting at a dramatic angle with its mast above water. Over the following years, table corals, clownfish, and anemones colonised the hull, and schools of fish used the structure as shelter.

NOTE (as of 2025): In early 2025, the wreck was reported to have flipped upside-down and drifted off the reef following storm activity, and is reportedly moving through the atoll carried by currents. Its current position and accessibility as a dive site are unknown as of June 2026. Divers should check with local operators for current status before travelling specifically to dive this site.
