Laguna Reef (2)

Laguna Reef (2) is a dive site on the western side of Tiran Island, at coordinates placing it in the Tiran Strait at approximately 28.00°N, 34.49°E. Tiran Island’s western coast hosts the Laguna reef system, which is divided by a transverse hard coral wall into North Laguna and South Laguna. This entry (marked as “(2)”) likely corresponds to a secondary entry or mapping of the same reef complex, or possibly a separate section of the lagoon wall.

Overview

Tiran Island’s Laguna Reef is described by Camel Dive Club as a drift dive along the outer wall of South Laguna, running between the lagoon entrance and the green beacon depending on current direction. The reef is bordered by a madreporic (hard coral) formation standing over a coral lagoon averaging 10–12 m depth. Strong tidal currents influence this site, making afternoon dives preferable. South Laguna (also known locally as Marsa Shabir) offers the best mooring in the region.

Dive Profile

Boat dive from Sharm El Sheikh (approximately 30–45 minutes). Current-dependent drift dive along the outer wall. Depth 10–25 m on the plateau, with the wall descending further. Suitable for all levels but best experienced as a drift; current can be strong and change direction. Best in the afternoon when tidal conditions favour a predictable current.
