Marsa Ghalib North

Marsa Ghalib North is a fringing reef dive site in the Port Ghalib area of Marsa Alam, at approximately 25.53°N, 34.64°E. Port Ghalib (also known as Marsa Ghalib) is a purpose-built international marina approximately 1 hour north of Marsa Alam town. The house reef at Port Ghalib is described as a magnificent 1 km fringing reef extending from the beach, with its drop-off covered in hard and soft corals.

Overview

Port Ghalib’s reef system runs along the coastline and is directly accessible from the beach opposite the dive centres. The reef offers easy shore access and good conditions for both beginners and experienced divers. The drop-off descends from the shallows to a 20–30 m zone that is productive for marine life encounters. The “North” designation likely refers to the northern section of the Port Ghalib fringing reef, which may be accessed from the northern part of the marina’s beach.

Marine Life

The Port Ghalib reef typically offers:

• Eagle rays and sea turtles on the outer reef
• Barracuda and trevally in open water
• Wrasse, parrotfish, and groupers along the reef wall
• Occasional dolphin sightings (spinner dolphins known in nearby areas)

Dive Profile

Shore entry from the Port Ghalib marina beach. The reef is accessible on foot from the beach. Drop-off zone reaches 20–30 m. Calm, sheltered conditions inside the marina bay. Additional boat diving is available to offshore sites including Elphinstone and Marsa Abu Dabbab.
