Marsa Trombi Garden

Marsa Trombi Garden is one of three distinct dive sites within the Ras Torombi bay complex, located approximately 8.5 kilometres north of Ras Ghalib in the Marsa Alam region of Egypt’s southern Red Sea. “Marsa” means bay in Arabic, and Torombi Bay is a 360-metre-wide protected inlet that forms part of a marine protected area in place for over 20 years.
Overview
The Garden section is described as a small lagoon just south of the large bay, drawing increasing numbers of divers with its calm, sheltered conditions and rich coral coverage. Optimal depth for the most interesting marine life is 10–15 metres, where hard corals and table corals stack in colourful formations near the reef plate. The outer reef edge drops to around 30 metres before the bottom shelves away.
Marine Life
The site regularly turns up hawksbill turtles and dugongs — the bay’s resident dugong population was the reason part of it was restricted from boat access to protect animals from propellers. Unicornfish, titan triggerfish, and burrfish are commonly encountered on the reef. Blue-spotted stingrays rest on sandy patches. Crocodilefish and stonefish blend into rubble areas; sea slugs and other macro subjects reward patient divers.
Dive Profile
A classic shallow-water reef dive with most of interest between 8 and 15 metres. The southern reef offers a short drift section over hard corals toward the reef plate. Night dives are available and productive. Current is typically around one knot; visibility ranges from 5–25 metres depending on season, with the best conditions from May to September when 25-metre-plus visibility is common.
Entry / Exit
Boat access; a RIB typically drops divers at the northern end of the bay and they dive back to the liveaboard or day boat. The fringing reef requires care on entry — best achieved with a RIB rather than a large vessel.
