S ABU NUHS

S ABU NUHS (South Abu Nuhs) is a reef dive site with coordinates placing it in the Hurghada coastal zone, slightly south of central Hurghada. It should not be confused with the famous Abu Nuhas shipwreck graveyard (also known as Shaab Abu Nuhas), which is located approximately 2.5 hours north of Hurghada near Shadwan Island and hosts five famous shipwrecks. This site appears to be a separate reef or bank in the nearshore zone with “S” indicating the south section.

Overview

The Hurghada coastal zone supports numerous patch reefs and fringing reef sections accessible by boat from the resort. Near-shore reefs in this area typically feature a shallow sandy approach leading to a coral garden at 5–15 metres, dropping to a wall or slope reaching around 20–25 metres. Hard and soft corals are present throughout, with the best coverage on the more exposed, current-influenced sections.

Marine Life

Reef communities in this zone include the full complement of typical Red Sea reef fish: parrotfish, wrasse, groupers, snappers, barracuda, moray eels, and lionfish. Blue-spotted stingrays, octopus, and cuttlefish populate sandy patches between coral formations. Cleaning stations attract a range of species. The broader Hurghada reef system — part of an ecosystem with over 200 coral species and 1,000+ fish species — ensures rich biodiversity across all reef sites in this area.
