Shabrour Lahmi

Shabrour Lahmi is a reef dive site in the deep southern Egyptian Red Sea, approximately 10 km south of Hamata village, accessible by boat from Hamata or Wadi Lahami.

Overview

Shabrour Lahmi lies in the Fury Shoals / Hamata area of the deep south Egyptian Red Sea, one of the most remote and least-visited sections of the Egyptian coast. The site is 10 km south of Hamata — “one of the last signs of civilization before the border with Sudan.” The Fury Shoals reefs in this zone are protected within Wadi el-Gemal National Park and are consistently cited as among the most pristine reefs in the entire Red Sea.

Shabrour Lahmi is a reef dive site suitable for open water level divers, with a moderate current of 1–2 knots. The average depth is around 12 m, with the maximum reaching 30 m. Visibility ranges from good (10–30 m). The reef is characterised by beautiful coral gardens and interesting marine biodiversity, and is noted as a good site for underwater photography. Sources also mention possible encounters with larger pelagic species in the blue — “nudis and perhaps something big in blue” — suggesting occasional visitors including larger fish or sharks.

Access is by day boat from Hamata or Wadi Lahami. The area forms part of the broader Fury Shoals reef system; combining Shabrour Lahmi with nearby reefs in a day or liveaboard itinerary is standard practice.
