Overview
Sham Fugami sits at approximately 25.87°N, 34.42°E on the central Egyptian Red Sea coast near Quseir — in the bay and cove zone typical of this section of the coastline. “Sham” in Arabic can refer to a northward-facing bay or geographical feature. The site’s sheltered character distinguishes it from the more exposed offshore reefs further south and east — it offers a calmer, bay-environment dive suited to the conditions common during the northerly wind season. Quseir operators use this and adjacent sites when offshore conditions preclude access to deeper sites. The reef structure features a bay margin with fringing coral, sandy seabed transitions, and accessible depths throughout.

Marine Life
The sheltered bay environment supports the typical Quseir coastal assemblage: moray eels in the reef crevices, groupers on the outer reef face, and blue-spotted stingrays on the sandy floor. Cleaning stations in the 8–12 metre zone attract resident fish. Lionfish and scorpionfish in the coral overhangs. Garden eels may be present in the sandy sections adjacent to the reef base. The bay’s protection from current means macro invertebrate diversity is high — nudibranchs and flatworms reward slow searching on the coral substrate.
Dive Profile
Descend to the sandy bay floor at 12–15 metres and search for stingrays and garden eels. Move to the reef margin at 8–12 metres for cleaning station observation. The shallow inner bay at 4–8 metres provides the snorkel-depth section. Safety stop at 5 metres over the inner bay reef.
Entry and Exit
Day boat from Quseir (15–30 minutes). Giant stride or roll-in entry. The sheltered bay character makes this a reliable option in choppy northerly wind conditions. SMB deployment before ascending.

- Use this site as a second dive after a more demanding offshore site — the calm bay conditions are ideal for a relaxed, macro-focused dive

Safety Considerations
Generally mild conditions. Fire coral on the reef sections. Scorpionfish and lionfish in coral overhangs. SMB before ascending — even in calm conditions, the boat needs to locate divers at the surface.
