Maa Neyru

Maa Neyru is a reef dive site in Addu Atoll (Seenu Atoll), the southernmost atoll in the Maldives, known for its rich macro life on exposed reef surfaces and the large marine creatures that roam its outer walls.

Overview

Located in Addu Atoll near the equator, Maa Neyru sits on the outer reef structure where the Indian Ocean meets the atoll’s rim. The reef extends from the shallows down to around 25 metres and is notable for its macro diversity — nudibranchs, flatworms, shrimp, and small cephalopods populate the nooks and overhangs of the reef surface. The outer slope features sea fans and sponge formations that shelter a wide range of reef fish, while the sandy channels around the base are favoured by stingrays and garden eels. Addu’s geographic isolation has produced a slightly different species mix from northern atolls, and this site reflects that diversity.
