Imbekwan wall is a vertical wall dive in the outer Raja Ampat archipelago, West Papua, Indonesia. Located close to the Imbekwan Bommies site, the wall provides a contrasting dive experience on the same reef structure — where the bommies reward slow exploration, the wall offers dramatic vertical terrain and open-water pelagic encounters.

Overview

The wall drops steeply from the surface to beyond recreational diving limits, with the most productive zone between 10 and 30 metres. The face is richly encrusted with orange and yellow soft corals, tunicates, and sponges that create a colourful tapestry across the vertical surface. Large sea fans extend outward from the wall into the current, and longnose hawkfish perch at their tips scanning for prey.

Current running along the wall concentrates pelagic traffic: schools of bigeye trevally sweep past in tight formation, and bumphead parrotfish have been observed moving along the wall edge in the early morning. The deeper sections of the wall host larger Napoleon wrasse and occasional grey reef sharks. In the mid-water off the wall, manta rays sometimes cruise past on nutrient-rich current.

Visibility runs 15–25 metres and can be exceptional in calm season. Water temperatures hold between 27–30°C. Currents range from gentle to strong depending on tidal phase — the wall is best when current is running as it activates the full food web.

Dive Profile

Divers descend the wall face to 25–30 metres to explore sea fans and overhangs, then drift upward with the current to shallower terrain and a safety stop. Intermediate divers familiar with wall diving are well suited to this site. Entry and exit are by boat.
