Bolifushi

Location: North Malé Atoll, Maldives Depth: 5–25 m Difficulty: Intermediate Entry: Boat

Overview

Bolifushi is a wreck site in North Malé Atoll, where a sunken vessel has over time been colonised by corals and become an artificial reef. Wreck diving in the Maldives combines the fascination of structural exploration with the rich marine life that takes advantage of the hard substrate. The Bolifushi wreck has been in place long enough for substantial coral growth to soften the original hull lines and create a flourishing habitat.

Diving

The wreck sits in water shallow enough to allow multiple dive profiles. The upper sections can be explored in the 5–15 m range, while the seabed around the wreck is at around 25 m. The hull and superstructure are encrusted with hard and soft corals, sea fans, and sponges. Schools of glassfish congregate around the wreck structure, drawing hunting lionfish and trevally.

Moray eels occupy gaps and recesses in the metal structure, and scorpionfish use their camouflage to blend with the encrusted surfaces. Surgeonfish and parrotfish graze the coral growth on the hull. For divers interested in wreck penetration, the accessible interior spaces offer further exploration opportunities.

Marine Life

No site-specific marine life records were found for Bolifushi Wreck beyond general wreck fish community patterns. The destination’s regional fauna (moray eels, lionfish, scorpionfish, glassfish, grouper) apply to wreck sites in this area, but no source confirms specific species at Bolifushi by name.

Practical Notes
