Cocoa Corner
Location: South Malé Atoll, near Cocoa Island, Maldives Depth: 5–25 m Difficulty: Intermediate Entry: Boat
Overview
Cocoa Corner is a reef corner site off Cocoa Island (Makunufushi) in South Malé Atoll. Corner dives are among the most productive in the Maldives — the transition point where the outer reef wall meets the atoll channel creates a natural funnel for current, concentrating plankton and the fish that feed on it. Cocoa Corner is a reliable site for shark encounters and dense schooling fish activity.
Diving
The dive typically begins at depth on the outer wall, ascending to the reef corner and then drifting along the reef face with the current. Grey reef sharks are frequently encountered in numbers around the corner, using the current shadow on the lee side to rest. Napoleon wrasse patrol the zone with characteristic unhurried movement.
The reef wall below 15 m has a series of overhangs and ledges where resting whitetip reef sharks can be found during the day. Schools of snapper and fusilier congregate at the corner tip, and trevally make occasional hunting passes through the baitfish schools.

Practical Notes
Best dived on a gentle incoming current that drives fish activity without making the dive physically demanding. Strong outgoing current on the exposed corner can be challenging. Visibility typically 15–25 m. Boat access from Cocoa Island resort and nearby South Malé Atoll operators.
