Lang Giri
Lang Giri is a coral reef dive site in South Malé Atoll, a giri (coral head) rising from the sandy lagoon floor to provide a concentrated patch of coral structure teeming with reef life and occasional resting sharks.
Overview
Located in the southern reaches of South Malé Atoll, Lang Giri is a classic Maldivian coral head formation where a broad reef plateau sits at around 6–8 metres before dropping in shelves to the sandy bottom at 25 metres. The coral structure supports a dense ecosystem: coral caves and overhangs shelter resting white-tip reef sharks and nurse sharks during the day, while the sandy areas around the base often reveal stingrays and small garden eels. Schools of parrotfish and surgeonfish work the reef top, and the shallower sections feature pristine hard coral gardens with good colour. Moderate current sweeps the site at times, keeping water clear and delivering nutrients to the thriving coral communities.
