Olhuveli Kuda Giri
Olhuveli Kuda Giri — “Small Coral Head of Olhuveli” — is a compact giri formation in South Malé Atoll near Olhuveli Island, a charming dive site with intimate coral structures, abundant reef fish, and the relaxed character typical of smaller Maldivian giris.
Overview
Kuda Giri (meaning “small giri”) near Olhuveli is a relatively modest coral structure compared to the large thilas of the outer atoll, but what it lacks in scale it makes up for in intimacy. The summit sits at around 5–6 metres with the structure’s base at 25 metres, and the entire formation can be circumnavigated in a single dive. Overhangs and crevices in the coral host resting nurse sharks and white-tip sharks, particularly at depth, while the shallower sections are carpeted in hard coral with rich attendant reef fish communities. Parrotfish and surgeonfish are conspicuous, and the site frequently rewards patient divers with nudibranch and flatworm sightings in the reef’s textured surfaces.
