Exit 4

Exit 4 is a numbered reef mooring point along the outer reef circuit system in the central-southern Maldives, positioned slightly west of the main exit cluster and providing access to a section of the reef with different current exposure.

Overview

Exit 4’s position slightly offset from the main exit cluster (1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 10) suggests it catches a different angle of tidal flow, making it the preferred exit point under specific current conditions. The reef at this position has a characteristic outer slope structure: the crest at 3-5 meters drops through coral terraces to a steeper wall section at 15-20 meters before easing onto sandy bottom at 25 meters. This middle section of the outer wall between the main exit points is typically less visited than the numbered points at either end of the system, resulting in fish life that is less habituated to divers and more natural in behaviour. Turtles graze on the reef top undisturbed, and large parrotfish scrape the hard corals without the usual alertness seen at busier sites. The sandy bottom hosts sand-dwelling species including garden eels and razorfish.

Site Information

  • Entry Type: Boat dive
  • Site Type: Reef
  • Difficulty Level: Intermediate
  • Maximum Depth: 25 meters
  • Typical Visibility: 15-30 meters

Marine Life

Hawksbill turtles, large parrotfish, garden eels, razorfish, grey reef sharks, moray eels, grouper, and reef fish schools on the coral crest and slope.

Tips for Divers

This exit is used when tidal conditions direct the drift toward the western section of the circuit. A standalone dive here is rewarding for its relative quietness compared to the clustered exits. Budget time to explore the sandy bottom at depth for sand-dwelling species before ascending the wall.
