Exit 8
Exit 8 is a numbered reef mooring on the outer reef circuit in the central-southern Maldives, forming part of the dense cluster of exits on the northern section of the reef and offering reliable access to a well-developed outer slope.
Overview
Exit 8 sits in the heart of the northern exit cluster alongside Exits 7, 9, and 10, and accesses a reef section with good biodiversity across its depth range. The upper reef crest at 3-8 meters features the highest hard coral cover of the outer face, with dense staghorn fields and table corals providing habitat for damselfish, anemonefish, and butterflyfish communities. The mid-slope transition zone at 10-20 meters combines coral bommies with sandy channels, creating a varied terrain that supports diverse species. Large Napoleon wrasse are frequently encountered here, often solitary individuals that patrol a section of reef and are accustomed to diver presence. The deeper sections at 20-25 meters have scattered coral heads on a gently sloping sandy substrate where garden eels colonise in numbers. Whitetip reef sharks often rest on the sandy areas during daytime dives.

Tips for Divers
Work the sandy channels at mid-depth for the best Napoleon wrasse encounters, and descend to the sandy base for the whitetip sharks resting during the day. The staghorn fields on the crest are a highlight for wide-angle photography. As with all exits in this cluster, confirm the planned exit strategy with your divemaster before diving.
