Fish Head
Fish Head — locally Mushimasmingili Thila — is one of the Maldives’ most storied shark dives, a protected submerged pinnacle in North Ari Atoll that rises from around 40 metres to within 10 metres of the surface.
Overview
Mushimasmingili Thila is a very wide submerged reef situated between the islands of Mandhoo and Maamigili in North Ari Atoll, protected as a Marine Park. The southeastern corner of the thila is locally called Fish Head and has historically been the focal point for shark encounters. Grey reef sharks and whitetip reef sharks are reliably present; the site was formerly known for particularly large grey reef shark aggregations, though current reports note that sightings vary by season, luck, and current conditions — encounters are not guaranteed on any single dive. The pinnacle receives strong tidal currents from multiple directions, which drive the ecology. The deeper sections below 30 metres feature sea fans and additional reef structure. The site is dived Advanced level due to current strength and depth.

Tips for Divers
Descend quickly to the top of the thila to orient in the current before being swept off. Position on the sheltered down-current face for best shark viewing. Maintain strict neutral buoyancy. Advanced certification and confirmed current-diving experience are essential. Current can be very strong on the outer faces.
