Pineapple Island Hausriff

Pineapple Island Hausriff (Hausriff is the German term for house reef, widely used in the Maldives resort context) is a shallow fringing reef in South Ari Atoll, an ideal site for beginners, snorkellers, and Open Water certification dives in crystal-clear Maldivian waters.

Overview

The house reef at Pineapple Island — a small resort island in South Ari Atoll — stays within 10 metres throughout and is characterised by a sunny, colourful shallow reef ecosystem. The reef top is densely colonised by hard corals, with table and branching formations providing shelter for juvenile reef fish, parrotfish, and triggerfish. The site’s shallow profile and mild current make it perfect for first-time divers and snorkellers, while the clear water and good light create excellent conditions for underwater photography without the need for flash. Sea turtles are regular visitors to the reef top, grazing unconcerned in the shallows. The proximity of the house reef to the resort means morning and evening diving are easily arranged, with dawn dives revealing a different character as nocturnal species prepare to retreat.

Marine Life

• Stay shallow (5–8 metres) to maximise bottom time and enjoy the colour and light in the coral garden.
• Look for blue-spotted stingrays in sandy patches at the reef base.
• Early morning dives often produce the best turtle encounters before boat traffic begins.

Pineapple Island is a resort island in South Ari Atoll, accessible by seaplane from Malé (approximately 30 minutes). The house reef is accessed directly from the resort.
