Marine Life

The current-swept environment at Beatrice Rock supports outstanding biodiversity. Large barrel sponges, gorgonians, black corals, soft corals, anemones with clownfish, and hard corals cover the reef structure. Schools of thousands of anthias swarm the upper reef. Frogfish, lionfish, and various nudibranch species inhabit the reef surfaces. Triggerfish, snappers, surgeonfish, jacks, and tuna pass through on the current. Turtles are regular visitors. Blue-ringed octopus have been observed in crevices. During strong-current periods, rainbow runners, several species of rays, and occasionally whale shark have been reported in the wider area.

Descend to the deeper sections first, working the mini wall and channels. The site’s multiple depth zones — from the 5-meter shallows down to 27 meters — require a planned dive profile that accounts for current direction. The average depth of 14 meters in the most productive zone allows reasonable bottom time. Follow your guide’s current briefing carefully and be prepared to abort to shallower water if currents exceed expectations.

Entry and Exit

Access by banca from Anilao-area resorts. Entry by giant stride; return by ladder. SMB essential for ascent given current exposure. Boat crew should be briefed on the drift pickup plan before entry.
